End of Life Services

Euthanasia Services:

Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is here to help support you throughout the stages of your animal’s life, even the difficult ones.  End-of-life care for your pet is offered to owners at a reduced cost.

Euthanasia services are offered to the public for $55.  Communal cremation services are also included in this cost, or an owner may reclaim their pet’s body for burial. We understand that making this choice is difficult, so we suggest filling out your paperwork beforehand.  For euthanasia authorization, we require an owner to be at least 18 years old and bring a photo ID.

Euthanasia services are based on the availability of our medical team, and an appointment is required.  Euthanasia service hours may be limited and are not available on holidays.  For additional questions or to request an appointment, please call 406-294-7387.

Deciding to say goodbye to a pet is often overwhelming for many owners, but knowing when to say goodbye is equally as challenging.  For additional guidance and resources, please call 406-647-0886 to speak with our Pet Bereavement Specialist.

Cremation Services:

Communal cremation services are included in the $55 euthanasia fee.  If you select the option of a communal cremation, your animal’s ashes will not be to be returned to you.

If you would like your pet’s ashes returned to you, YVAS works closely with Faithful Friend Animal Memories to offer a range of private cremation services to help you memorialize your pet in a dignified, caring manner.  Please call the shelter for detailed pricing.

If your pet has passed away at home and you would like to have them communally cremated at YVAS, please fill out this form and we will cremate your pet free of charge.  Please note that in the case of communal cremations, your animal’s ashes are unable to be returned to you.  If your pet has passed away at home and you would like to have them privately cremated, please contact the shelter to make arrangements and for detailed pricing.

Pet Loss Support:

For many of us, our pets are family members. When it’s time to say goodbye, the resulting sense of loss and grief is as real and overwhelming as when we lose a relative or human friend.

Grieving the loss of a friend or companion is a sign of the love that existed between you. The first step in coping with your grief is to acknowledge and communicate your feelings. These resources are available to help you through your grieving process:

    • Schedule a session with our Pet Bereavement Specialist
        • Our compassionate and caring team is here to help guide you through this difficult time.  Whether you need assistance determining when it’s time to say goodbye, or you need help navigating the grieving process, we are here for you.  Please call 406-647-0886 to set up an appointment today.
    • Attend a Pet Loss Support Group
        • Share your feelings with others going through a similar experience. This group will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at our Learning Center, located at 2010 Grand Avenue Suite #1, from 5:30-7 PM.
