Vaccination FAQs

Why are vaccines important?

Vaccines help protect pets from highly contagious and potentially deadly diseases. Many of these illnesses are still present in our community, and vaccination significantly reduces the risk of infection and spread.

What vaccinations does my pet need?

The vaccines your pet needs depend on their age, lifestyle, and risk factors. Core vaccines (i.e. Rabies and Distemper) are recommended for most dogs and cats, while non-core vaccines (i.e. Bordetella) may be suggested based on your pet’s exposure risks like boarding, grooming, or outdoor activity.

How often does my pet need to be vaccinated?

The frequency of vaccines your pet needs depend on their age, lifestyle, and risk factors. Some vaccinations such as Distemper are recommended to be boostered 3 times before the age of 6 months. Others such as rabies and bordetella are typically good for 1-3 years. Talk to your veterinarian about your pet’s vaccination needs.

Are vaccines safe?

Yes. Vaccines used today are extensively tested and considered very safe. Most pets experience little to no side effects. Mild soreness or sleepiness for a day is common, while serious reactions are extremely rare.
