Tilly is a loving, intelligent, and energetic dog that would make a great companion in a home without other small pets and small children. She’s a 5-year-old, 60 lb mix of several breeds who was adopted through Rez Dog Rescue. She’s been evaluated for temperament and cleared by local boarding/doggie daycare groups, and in working with a dog trainer, has displayed no aggression toward our infant/toddler child. However, Tilly has developed some very defensive behaviors, especially involving food, that has led to her no longer being a good fit in our home with another small dog and visitors including other small children.
We’ll be very sad to see Tilly go; she’s backpacked and hiked through the Beartooths with us, snuggled for hours, and our child loves her. But in a home with small children, we can’t police food well enough to completely avoid conflicts with our smaller dog, and we’re unwilling to risk conflict with children visiting our home.
